The Boys Project
A long term art and activism project, exploding media stereotypes and the political marginalisation of the young.

The Boys Project

The Boys Project was a three-year multi-platform, activist artwork created by Bryony Kimmings in collaboration with an army of young men from council estates across the UK. The men were trained to become peace warrior artists for positive social, political and media change. The project was planned to be a 6-month social campaign, documentary, education initiative and theatre show. But sadly Kimmings' child was taken ill right at the crux moment. This led to the huge budget needed to be as audacious and world changing as possible not being raised.

In brief, the army and artist were set to embark on a viral media, mainstream music, public art disturbance and social campaign over a 6 month period that would directly challenge and change the ways young working class men are stereotyped, vilified, abused and misinterpreted by both the government and mainstream media in the UK.

NOTE FROM BK: IF ANYONE HAS A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY AND/OR INTEREST IN THIS PROJECT BRYONY KIMMINGS  WOULD LOVE TO PICK THIS WORK UP AGAIN. IT IS STILL VERY MUCH NEEDED.

The working classes and still very much under fire from all media outlets (bar a few) and these communities of beautiful humans, now more than ever, need support to continue to change the narrative surronding their estates and lives.

ALTHOUGH ALL OF THE BOYS WHO WE WORKED WITH ARE FLYING IN THEIR OWN WAYS AND NO LONGER NEED SOME ARTIST TELLING THEM WHAT TO DO... WE WOULD LOOK TO SUPPORT A NEW GENERATION OF WORKING CLASS AND BENEFIT CLASS LADS.

God bless all the boys I met on this wonderful project. Over 50 of them. And all the venues who dreamt big with us. These boys are dear to my heart and showed such huge passion and love for both the project and for me and my boy. I hate the fact we never got to change the world together. Glad to see they are out doing that themselves!

"During this 6 month public art project, the army will assume the role of unofficial advisors to government in hilarious, loud and audacious ways. They will have concrete, real world aims that they will be pushing to achieve during the artwork's lifespan. They will attack the establishment and inspire a whole generation of young people through videos, music, public art interventions, performance, rallies and demos, sketches, speeches and news delivered via a specially made website. This work will be backed by excellent PR campaigning, lobbying and viral expertise." Bryony Kimmings (description of the aim)
